How much does branded caller ID actually cost?

If you're researching branded caller ID, you've probably noticed the pricing isn't always easy to find. Some providers publish it. Others make you talk to sales before you see a number. Here's what it actually costs, what you're paying for, and why the price varies as much as it does.

The three fees you'll usually see

Almost every branded caller ID provider, including the official CTIA program known as Branded Calling ID, or BCID, structures pricing around three charges:

  • A one time setup fee per brand. This covers the vetting process, confirming your business is who it says it is before anyone gets to use your name on a call.

  • A monthly fee per brand. This keeps your registration active and current.

  • A per call fee. You're charged when a call actually gets delivered with your branded display, not for every call you place.

At 382 Communications, that breaks down to $49.99 one time, $49.99 a month, and $0.05 per delivered call. Other publicly listed branded calling pricing in the market runs closer to $50 one time, $50 a month, and $0.075 per call. The setup and monthly fees across providers tend to land in a similar range. The per call rate is usually where the real difference shows up, and over any meaningful volume, that's the number that actually moves your bill.

Why some providers charge more for less

Here's something worth knowing before you compare prices: not every provider is charging you for the same thing.

Branded Calling ID runs on a defined set of roles set up by CTIA. Someone has to onboard your brand, someone has to vet it, someone has to cryptographically sign your calls, and someone has to actually originate them on a real network. A lot of providers you'll find outsource one or more of those roles to a third party and pass that cost down to you, whether or not it's visible in the price.

382 holds all four roles directly: Onboarding Agent, Vetting Agent, Signing Agent, and Originating Service Provider. There's no reseller markup baked into the number, because there's no reseller in the chain.

It's also worth checking whether a provider's price covers everything you'd expect. Some split your name, logo, and reason for calling into separate pricing tiers, with the logo and reason locked behind a more expensive plan. At 382, all three are included in the one flat per call rate. What you see is what you get.

Is it worth paying for?

Fair question, since this isn't a free feature. The short answer, based on independent research rather than anything a vendor would tell you: yes, for most businesses making outbound calls that matter.

A Morning Consult survey from August 2024 found that 78% of people answer less than half the calls they get from numbers they don't recognize. In the same survey, 75% said they'd answer a call that showed a verified name, logo, and reason for calling, even from a number they didn't know. And 74% said a verification indicator directly changes their decision to pick up.

If a missed call costs you something real, a no show, a lapsed payment, a stalled delivery, the math tends to work out in your favor pretty quickly.

What it looks like in practice

Once a brand is approved, the display goes live automatically. There's nothing to change on your end, no new SIP headers, no dialer reconfiguration. Your calls just start showing up differently on the other end.
